Discover the thousands-of-years-old tradition of wool weaving as part of Art Week Esztergom!

Anatolian kilims, decorated with colourful geometric patterns, have been unique works of textile art for centuries. Their simple yet fascinating technique is based on the interweaving of vertical and horizontal threads, giving rise to countless patterns and unique woven textiles.

During our workshop, you will learn about the natural properties of wool and the basics of weaving, and you will have the opportunity to create your own small wall hanging. While creating your piece, you will also gain an insight into how weaving became an integral part of everyday life and traditional craftsmanship.

No previous experience is required – just curiosity and a willingness to create.

Lecture following the workshop

Following the workshop, at 4 pm, conservator Judit Szabó will give a lecture entitled “Colourful Woven Wonders from Anatolia” about the history of Oriental carpets, traditional carpet-making techniques and their restoration.

The lecture is free of charge and open to everyone without prior registration.
