Recep Tayyip Erdoğan paid a visit to the Tomb of Gul Baba
During his visit to Hungary, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his wife Emine Erdoğan, visited the Tomb of Gul Baba. The Turkish president returned to the memorial site one year after the opening of the Gul Baba Cultural Center where Adnan Polat, president of the Gul Baba Heritage Foundation, Suat Karakus, vice president of the Foundation, István Szalai, CEO of the Foundation and Haydar Ali Yildiz, president of the Turkish Archers’ Foundation welcomed him.
The presidential couple and their delegation paid a visit to the temporary exhibition of the Turkish Archers’ Foundation “Ottoman Era Turkish Archery in Miniatures” in the complex, and prayed at Tomb of Gul Baba.
Before visiting the memorial site, President Erdoğan had a meeting with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, where he also spoke about establishing an exemplary cooperation in the preservation of collective historical sites and cultural heritage. He also recalled that the renovated Tomb of Gul Baba was inaugurated last year. He highlighted at the opening ceremony last October that, inspired by Gül Baba, measures will be enacted in order to strengthen Hungarian-Turkish friendship – not only in the field of culture, but also in that of economic relations. He said that there is no one in Hungary who is not familiar with the story of Gül Baba, who died 477 years ago on this hill. Despite the intervening years since he has not been forgotten, and the values that he stood for – such as courage, self-sacrifice, a sense of justice and respect – have become important symbols.
